Is Underlayment Important for Laminate Installation?

Yes! Underlayment is almost always important and often essential for laminate flooring installation in the Lower Mainland. By adding a premium underlayment when installing new laminate floors, you receive the following benefits:

  • NUMBER1

    Moisture Protection

Many underlayments include an integrated vapor barrier that prevents moisture from reaching your laminate. This protective shield is the most critical function of underlayment, especially over concrete.

  • NUMBER2

    Sound Reduction

Underlayment adds a cushioning layer that absorbs impact sound and reduces noise transmission. Not only will the floor feel quieter and more solid underfoot, but the overall acoustics of the room will also be improved.

  • NUMBER3

    Enhanced Comfort

The cushioned layer of underlayment provides a softer, more comfortable feel when walking on the floor. It also adds a degree of thermal insulation, helping to keep the floor warmer in colder climates and potentially improving energy efficiency.

  • NUMBER4

    Easier Installation

Most flooring manufacturers, even for rigid core vinyl, will have specific acclimation guidelines in their installation instructions. Failing to follow these guidelines can void your warranty if issues arise later.

  • NUMBER5

    Support & Stability

Underlayment provides consistent support across the entire floor, helping to maintain the integrity of the locking system and preventing planks from separating or popping out of place.
